Our Methodology. Practice to Perfect.
Drive and motivation form the backbone of our training system. Our dogs have to be infatuated with what we have to say, and they have to want, with enormous desire, to perform any behaviour we ask.
We help you lay the foundations and form the bond.
The only way to have an obedient dog is by training obedience.
Learn > Proof > Generalise
The Premis
We use food, toys, and play mechanics as the foundation for building this. The more obsessed your dog is with certain words / commands, and more importantly, the “reward event” that comes with it, the more control we ultimately have in high states of excitement or distraction, especially in stimulating environments.
We look deep into the technical detail of shaping new behaviours and fool-proof them through generalisation and exposure to new environments and stimuli, resulting in a dog that’s able to tune out the world, and tune in to you, when you want it.
The Method
The first thing we must establish is a language with the dog so they know clearly what we’re saying to them and what we are asking of them. In learning, the carrot beats the stick. In sports, at the beginning, we don’t tell the talented athlete that he/she is doing it wrong. We nurture talent with encouragement.
Your dog will understand you, but more importantly, you will have the tools to teach your dog anything.
My approach to dog training is the “new school” way, which applies science and favours reward over compulsion. In the industry, my method is called “balanced training”. Positive to learn, neg / pos to perfect.
"We pay great attention to the mind."
We all know dogs need exercise – daily walks, weekend hikes, etc., otherwise the dog ‘has too much energy’. For the most part we focus on physical needs… but undoubtedly pay little consideration to exercising the mind. Dogs need mental stimulation, physical exercise, enrichment through new experiences, and fulfilment (chase, smell, play, etc). When we satisfy these needs, we have a balanced dog.
Replace 45 mins of walking a day with 10-20 mins of training with your dog, in the house, or outside.
We teach the dog concepts.
- Look at me and stay looking at me;
- Be in ready-to-work mode;
- Be chill;
- Yes and no and what those really mean;
- Go over there;
- Come closer (e.g. in heel);
- Your reward is over here;
- Your reward is over there.
